Break any task into small steps
Type the thing you keep putting off. Get small, doable steps, each with the minutes it takes. Free, no sign-up, and nothing leaves your browser.
That's the only step you need right now. Start it in the next minute; the next move is easier to see once you're moving.
Now make it actually happen
One Step puts these steps on your Android phone and sends a reminder that comes back after 2, 5, 9, 14 and 20 minutes, until you tap Start. Swiping it away doesn't count.
- Say it instead of typing. Tap the mic to add a task or a step. Voice stays on your phone (Android 12 and newer).
- Add from anywhere. Share text from WhatsApp, Chrome or any app, or tap the "Add a task" tile in Quick Settings.
- The same breakdowns as this page, ready to edit.
- A focus timer you can see, still running in the notification shade when the app is closed.
- Reminder check. Finds what's blocking your reminders on your phone and sends a test.
- Private by default. No account, no cloud. Back up to a file when you change phones.
Free, with one small banner ad on a few screens, never on the one you're working from.
Get One Step on Google Play →Why a tiny first step works
The hardest part of most tasks isn't doing them. It's starting. "Do my taxes" is too big to begin, so the brain looks for something else. "Find last year's form" takes two minutes, and it's hard to say no to two minutes.
Every breakdown here follows three rules: the first step is physical and takes a minute or three ("find the form", never "think about the form"), no step is longer than ten minutes, and the steps are in the order you'd actually do them.

Questions
Is this free?
Yes. No sign-up, no ads on this page.
Does it send my tasks anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. What you type isn't stored and isn't sent to any server.
Is it made for ADHD?
It's built around the moment many people with ADHD describe as the hardest: starting. Anyone who procrastinates can use it. It's a planning aid, not a medical tool.
My task isn't in the list. Will you add it?
Probably. New breakdowns are added regularly, and we're looking at optional AI-made breakdowns for everything else. Tell us what's missing: seif.appslab@gmail.com
Does it work in other languages?
The ready-made breakdowns recognise English words. For anything else it asks for your first move, in any language.
What is One Step?
A free Android app by Halfstep with the same breakdowns and a reminder that repeats until you actually start. It also has voice input, share-to-add, a Quick Settings tile, a focus timer and a Reminder check. No account, and your tasks stay on your phone.
